    Hello all.

I’m contemplating buying a new PowerBook for general use, including FCP editing in various formats. I also have a VariCam client and would be interested in occasionally editing VariCam footage in FCP on my computer. I’ve read a few user reports, in particular, Ken Stone’s experiences in editing a documentary on FCP. He appears to have used dual processor towers, not a PowerBook, for editing.

In particular, I noted that Ken had trouble “printing” the finished FCP Master back to the Pana 12000 deck when he used the lesser-powered of his two desktop Macs, apparently a G4. Here’s his text: (“Also, you will need a fast computer to output at the proper or best output cadence, or pulldown. In our case, only the G5 could do this.”)

Do you folks think a PowerBook 15″ 1.67GHz could handle editing and outputting Native VariCam footage?
