power question
Hello,
I was having issues with dropping frames video and audio and i was told that since i had a firewire sound card plugged in the back of the mac where the g-raid was plugged it was creating a power vacuum and that’s why i was having those issues.
So i started powering the sound card with its power cable and i bought a firewire power port to plug it in. It was fine for a day and then it all went back to the same frame dropping stuff.
Now can anyone please shed some light on this? I am really not tech friendly,…i’m trying but I am truly sweating bullets.

What is a “firewire power port?”
Are you referring to a Firewire Hub or a Firewire Card/Bus?What version of Final Cut are you using?
How many devices are connected and what is the connection path during capture?
Are all devices – external drives, Mac Firewire port(s), cameras, decks – operating at the same speed during capture?
How many devices share the same Firewire path?
Have you addressed potential problems with Spotlight, as discussed earlier on this site?
If using Final Cut Express HD 3.0, have you upgraded to 3.5, which addresses some of these capture issues?

I am using a FCP 5.1, I have a firewire hub, and everything is externa, GRAID and Sound card, I haven’t had a chance to see if i have problems capturing cause i haven’t been capturing any material.
I am sorry but i do not know what spotlight is…..
do you think that is a power issue? I should probably get a firewire card…but how’s that going to make a difference if is still connected to the motherboard?

Performing an archive search of this site using the keyword Spotlight should give you some insight.
Adding a second Firewire bus gives another option of spreading out the use of two, external Firewire devices simultaneously (a DV camera and an external drive, or an A/D converter and an external drive).
