July 16, 2005 at 1:42 pmActually, it is possible to do it with basically the same technique. You have to cut the form like they do in the tutorial and use a mask to reveal it. You could use a particle emitter that draws a line with the “motion path” behavior and use it as a mask to reveal each part of the form.

Jayse in the opening article says that the shapes make regular masking techniques hard to do for tthis kind of example..
so I’m wondering if Motion has a similar filter to the ‘write-on’ in AE….also wondering how this technique really does out-do the usual masking technique….?Thanks

July 17, 2005 at 12:33 amHey Rene,
Motion 2 has the new replicator tool which, amongst the seemingly endless things it’s capable of, allows you to do a variety of write-on effects. You’d use the replicator to draw the fill and use the original image as an Image Mask to properly mask off the fill, giving it that “reveal” look. The rest of Jayse’s technique, regarding the scaling of the petals, etc, would work the same as in AE.
For the replicator write-on bit, here’s a tutorial that can get you started:
https://homepage.mac.com/specialcase/tutorials/repline/repline1.html
The bottom movie on the second page shows the kind of smoother write-on look that you’d want to use as the fill for Jayse’s tutorial.
Good luck!

July 18, 2005 at 1:19 amHere is an exemple of what I did with the method I mentioned above in MOTION 1.

or
http://www.cdxpressonline.com/studio408/other/exmpl2.movThey are in PIXLET and weight 3 and 11 MB
I took me 30 minute to cut the swirls in Photoshop, create the particles with the motion path and apply a mask to the swirls in MOTION . I hope it will be easier in MOTION 2 when I’ll get it. -
