  • possible cure for long load times on Pro 9

I sent an email to Sony last week complaining about Pro 9.0d taking a very long time to load projects and/or files.
I heard back from them today and here’s what they said to do.
I did it and my load times are now like they used to be 🙂

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software. Try resetting the Vegas pro 9.0d application to it’s default values. To do this:

Close the program. Now press CTRL+SHIFT while double-clicking on the program’s icon to launch it. Continue to hold the CTRL & SHIFT keys until the program is fully up and loaded.

In newer programs, you will see a window that asks “Do you want to reset all preferences to default values?” Place a checkmark next to “Delete all cached application data” and then click Yes.

Good to know Mike. Sometimes it takes a little “spring cleaning” to get things working again. 😉

John, I have to admit that, when I saw the response, my first thought was “another stock response from Sony that won’t work”.
Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I was mistaken.
BTW, crow is best eaten warm 🙂

Interesting to know – will try this tomorrow at work 🙂

FWIW, in addition to speeding up project loads this was also the solution for my problem with Vegas crashing when editing text items. At least preliminary evidence suggests it solved it.

Mike is this a windows or a Sony fix in deleting the cache? If the latter I don’t relish the idea of losing my preferences on load up. Thanks for the info

Joe, I have no idea if it’s a Sony thing or a Windows thing.
In my case, I haven’t used Pro 9 seriously yet so there were only a few preferences for me to reset to other than their default settings.

Perhaps I mis-understood. I thought the reset trick was a permanent fix. Unfortunately, in my case at least, after shutdown and restart, the projects once again take forever to load.

Addendum…. since resetting Vegas, projects sometimes load quickly. But sometimes the same project will load just as slowly as before I reset it. Haven’t found a definitive pattern yet.

I had this Vegas 9d extreme project load time issue, too. After installing 9d, my Cineform 1080p projects took 15 minutes to load! WTF?! Then it started crashing… my precious Vegas. Crashing!

I felt doomed. Re-install 9c?! No! That’s for Final Cut lemmings! Vegas people never uninstall!

    Then, from DVInfo.net:

“Just substitute the 9.0c version of aviplug.dll for the 9.0d version, and this problem no longer occurs…”

    Read on: https://bit.ly/9xnPmL

THIS WORKS. I’m running XP 32-bit, and I assume this is a Cineform bug, but hey, I could be wrong.

Unfortunately, I tried this fix and it didn’t work. I copied the 9.0C (32 bit) version of aviplug.dll from an archived 9.0C (32 bit) installation into the same folder in the 9.0D (32 bit) installation and it didn’t solve the slow project load.

Reverting to Vegas 9.0C did 😉
