Does anyone know if there are portable FW800(7200RPM) drives.
Something that could be powered by a laptop. Is such a thing possible, that is, can you get power for the drive via the FW800 cable? Also, if such a box does exist, any feed back on performance.

I found a site that mentioned a Smartdisk 80GB FW800 portable, but there was no other tech info.

    Thanks,

You can something like the Firestore series which can run on a Anton Bauer battery, but it’s doubtful you can find anything fast enough for video that would also run off the laptop. It would kill the laptop battery so fast it would be impractical.

Wiebetech.com has a relatively new FW800 3.5″ 7,200RPM drive and enclosure that is buss powered. Walter’s right
that it will use more power than a 2.5″ drive. They come in 120g and 160g versions.
