  • popping & distortion with my audio in Final cut but not in Quick Time…

Posted by Christina Rule on March 4, 2013 at 9:02 pm

When I’m exporting and playing back (inside FCP) my video out of Final Cut I’m noticing some popping and distortion with my audio. Now, when I playback the audio in quick time I’m not noticing any extra noise. I checked my sequence settings in quicktime and all seem to match up with the audio file settings. I can’t seem to figure it out…anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your time and help!

try converting your mp3 to aif or wave. that might be the issue

[Dave LaRonde] “I also have to ask why the sample rate is set to 44.1 kHz.”

If the OP is using mp3s as source media in a video editing application, it may be attributable to thinking the audio sampling standard is the CD format of 44.1. Its pretty common for musicians and non-film-oriented sound mixers to carry this (erroneous) assumption. Also (erroneously) standard to submit digital audio files at “0” (full blast) instead of dynamically positioned for FCP’s internal reference at -12 or broadcast -20, which makes conforming to broadcast legal headroom, um, interesting. Maybe if the FCC were to fine a few more of them…

Thank you! That did the trick in regards to playback inside of FCP. However I’m still noticing when I export it the audio is really fuzzy… any ideas?

“it may be attributable to thinking…”

no thinking in it, it’s a standard music mp3 at 44.1k

FCPX can deal with this and other formats, i believe.

Never-mind, I realized I wasn’t exporting at the correct sample size. Once I changed this all sounded fine on the final export. Thank you all for all of your time and suggestions!
