Poor motion blur in After Effects 6.5?
Is it just me or has the motion blur quality got poorer and more coarse in version 6.5 than it used to be?
When I animate an object with fast motion it shows clear edges and often I need to animate some extra blur on top of the animation to make it look nice and smooth.Recently I started playing around with Shake from Apple which has real nice motion blur – perhaps that’s why I suddenly take the view that motion blur in After Effect has changed since the earlier versions?
And speaking of changes since the earlier versions… After Effects now default to interpret 720×576 Photoshop files as “square pixels” which is a little strange. I tried to fix it in the interpretation text file wichout success.

See if this works – put it at the end of the interpretation_rules.txt file.

720, 576, *, “8BPS”, * = 768/720, *, *, *I always thought that AE’s Motion Blur should look better. Bear in mind that a layer’s quality setting affects the quality of the Motion Blur.

AE has had 16 motionsamples in it’s motionblur ever since motionblur was introduced in… well… a long long time agon in a galaxy…
Anyway… your alternative is adding motionblur using ReelSmart MotionBlur by Re:VisionFX.
