  • Pointers on making smoother keyframe changes in Event Pan/Crop

I’ve used Sony Vegas for years. I’ve never actually owned Vegas though I’ve used it from time to time at various places where I’ve worked. I guess I started around Vegas 7 with most of my usage on Vegas 8. The “big boss” here at the office has Vegas 10, so my question will apply to the latest release.

I’ve often used the Event Pan/Crop window to change up existing video, reusing the same snippets of film over and over for effect, flipping and zooming and cropping to hide the looping. My issue arises in that often the changes from one zoom to the next (or crop or whatever) are hard to get right. I’ve tried all the different presets (linear, fast, slow, smooth, sharp, hold) but often none of these provide an acceptable transition from one look to another. They often look very similar and I can’t really tell the difference.

Anybody toy with this and find a trick to smoothing out keyframe changes? I also use the Video Velocity Envelopes to slow, reverse, and return to make short snippets run much longer than they would normally. Again, when adding points, the transition from forward to reverse is always too sharp or has too much of a “hold.” It’s really hard to get a smooth and perfect transition from one direction to the other.

I hope I made sense. I appreciate help from true professionals. I guess I would qualify as a “professional,” but I’m by no means an expert. For the record, I work at a large church and I’m normally making inspirational videos or promos for services. I have another question but it will require an additional thread. Thanks again!
