    Helllooo!

I received a series of captions from a captioning company as PNG files, and when i put them in my sequence they take an awfully long time to render…a lot longer than tiffs or tgas. like 4 to 5 mins for 3 titles over 30 seconds, and no motion effects except static reposition. also when i first play the section after rendering, it drops frames.

my timeline is DVCPROHD 720p 29.97 and the PNGs are 1280 x 720.

they appear to have no background and no alpha channel, and yet they key with a 3 pixel stroke around each charachter, so there must be an embedded “key cutter” in the file. If I convert them to tiffs, i have to create an alpha for each one as there is no alpha channel in the PNG.

Does anyone know how these PNG’s are keying? Is the Non-alpha “key cutter” the reason it takes so long to render?

BTW, i have cut them all in, and took a couple o coffe breaks during the render time, so its not holding me up, but i would like to know for future

    thanx to you all

png files support transparency without an alpha, just like psd. I think that layered tiff files may support transparency, too, but I haven’t tired it out.

    hey arnie

thanx for the reply! sorry to take so long to respond, work and all (go figger!)

do you know why it would take so long to render these png’s as just static titles?

I’m sure you had to wait for your .png files to finish rendering!

I haven’t the slightest idea why the .png files take longer to render. I wonder if there’s a way to run a batch action in Photoshop to add an alpha and convert to .tif?
