Please let us have separate Red settings for each instance of a Red Clip
Posted by Robert Ruffo on March 3, 2012 at 11:39 pmIdeally, I would want to set Red decode settings right in a node (would be same as now by default, but would have a new checkbox that would lead to a separate “Use Unique Red Settings” page, so that I could layer, for example, two ISO choices within a Layer Node Tree, and use HSL and Power Windows to define which goes where. You can do that now with HDRX 9at least in terms of effective ISO), but not with non-HDRX footage
Also, I wish there was a transparency setting. That way I could use a tracked Power Window to matte together two video layers in a multi-layer edit.

March 4, 2012 at 3:47 amYeah I would love this.
Or even if it’s a tab in the main color interface. Such as the 3-way color or the curves tab.

The way it works is so inconvenient… A Tab would make it much easier. -

March 5, 2012 at 7:25 pmSo if I’m reading this correctly, etc.
You want to be able to apply several different RED decode settings to the same clip simultaneously. Maybe there’s a way to do that in “what-if” land, but for the moment, my understanding is that deBayering and metadata settings are clip-based and not node-based, at all…
which leads to the clip-by-clip metadata settings wish list, and maybe I’m missing something here, but you can already right-click on any R3D clip thumbnail in the COLOR timeline and choose “Edit Redcode Settings”, which brings up the dialog that allows you to set the proxy, and decode using a choice of Clip, Project, Camera Metadata or RED Default settings, plus all the sliders governing ISO, tint, etc., etc.
Which sort of really acts just like a “Tab”, but it stays out of the way until you want to see it.Or are you all asking for something else?

You mean “Old Ben”? Ben Kenobi?

March 5, 2012 at 8:19 pmYeah, what people would like is that if you use the same clip twice in your timeline (for instance two parts of the same clip), you should be able to use two different sets of decode settings, one for each instance. This is probably not all that difficult to do, it’s just a matter of loading the clip twice.
And yes, I would also like to see this. There are things you can do with the R3D decode settings that are difficult or impossible to replicate in grades.

March 6, 2012 at 5:33 amSCRATCH can easily do it ..
it does have R3D setting independent per versions ,
than on a node (called scaffold in scratch ) you can isolate a key or a canvas and import the shot from version 2 (that can have lower ISO)..in within that qualification (of example SKY)it’s pretty much like HDRX in resolve , but having R3D setting totally independents ..
wich i am keep asking , even if only to explore looks sung versions (different gamma curve in the red SDK create very different results along the way …)
it would be very very useful …
it;s over a year that i am asking for it …maybe if some more people ask for it they will make it happen..
