    Hello Folks;

    I video taped a 1 hr play with 3 Digital cameras and am trying to piece it together but have run into issues after bringing the video in via the firewire. Here are the specifics.

    * imported via Vegas
    * Vegas brought the file in and for some reason split each cameras video up into 5 files rather than one each (DO YOU KNOW WHY ..POSSIBLY A SETTING I CAN’T FIND WHICH WOULD ALLOW FOR ME TO TELL VEGAS TO KEEP EACH TAPE AS 1 BIG FILE?)
    * For one of the tapes … all 5 video files from that angle work fine
    * For the other 2 angles.. for each of those cameras … the very first file (of 5) didn’t capture correctly (I assume). The other 4 files for each of those angles looks fine. For those 2 cameras .. the first entire file…audio is slowed down ..and video is distorted (4 or 5 brownish squares on the video..)

    When comparing the properties of the messed up files to the ones that work … here are the specifics. (both bad files were exactly the same)

    GOOD CLIP ———- BAD CLIP
    image – width 720 ———– same
    height 480 ——————— h 576

    audio -bit rate 1024kbps ———- same
    audio sample size 16bit ——— same
    audio format pcm —————– same

    video -frame rate 29 fr sec —– 25 fr sec
    video sample size 24bit ———– same
    video compression dvsoft ———– same

    ——

    Last bit of info. I have no idea what type of firewire card i have in that pc. I do have another SIIG card from another pc i could move there that i know would be OHCI Compliant if that would possibly be part of the issue.

    Its just very strange that in capturing …
    1) vegas is splitting the approx 1 hr 15mins on each tape into 5 dif. files.
    2) on all files .. (15 in total between the 3 tapes/3 angles)…. that the first 2 files from 2 cameras is screwed up.

    Please advise if you have any ideas as to why this would be like this.

    Thank you very much;
    Johnny

    Turn OFF scene detection. If you taped WITHOUT stopping and starting the camera, are you capturing to a FAT32 drive which would have a 4Gig file size limit?

    The “Bad” clips are being interpreted as PAL instead of NTSC. To solve that problem, start playback of the tape and don’t start capturing until 4 or 5 seconds into the tape. This will get past any “beginning of tape” strangeness.

    Hi Mr Troxel .. Thank you for the information. Your right….

    1) The external hard drive says FAT32 under File system when looking at it in MY Computer (though my others show as NTFS). Is there a way to change that? If not .. i should be able to just pull the 5 clips together … no biggie right? (also … fyi … when i video’d the program I did start all 3 tapes and ran them continuous … didn’t turn either of them off until the play was over)

    2) i was thinking after sending this out as to what else i did different when comparing the 1st one i pulled into vegas (center camera which worked great)…. and the other 2 that had the problems. With the 1st camera that worked … i actually rewound the tape all the way picked a spot to start it … and then fast forwarded to the end … and then selected the end spot … BUT … for the 2 angles where i had probs … i just put the tapes in … left the marker for the start spot as 00:00:00 … and then rewound a few secs and set the end there….. thus maybe the issue with it thinking its PAL.

    THANK YOU for the info !!!

    Lastly … glad you were the one that helped me on this one as i had a question for you. Your program Excalibur … (my bro Mike got from you in October) … sounds as though it would probably make it quite simple for me to make all these scene changes for this play. Do you have any copies of your previous versions that you have not sold yet?

    Thanks ..

    Yes, you can just pull these five clips onto the timeline back to back and they will fit seamlessly. To change the format of the drive, there are a few options. The easiest is to simply reformat it but has the disadvantage of destroying all data on the drive. If you have data you wish to keep on the drive, research the “Convert” command built into XP.

    Just change that to about 00:00:05:00 and all would have worked. It’s tough for it to start capturing before the image has stablized.

    It definitely will help speed up the editing. Just go download the current version and play with it for free for two weeks and see what you think. As for previous versions, only the current one is available. I don’t know if Class On Demand has any older CD’s but the code to unlock it still works in the most current version so there really isn’t a “previous version” at this time.

    Can you send me an e-mail?
