please help, quicktime movie import crash

Do you have the latest Quicktime 7.5 installed? Perhaps is a codec compatibility issue. What HD camcorder produces Quicktime files?

i do have quick time installed and i think quicktime is the problem. i have uninstalled it and reinstalled it about 3 times now to maybe fix the problem, it didnt work.
i was confused to that the hd camcorder i have produced 1080p vidoes and in quicktime. well the videos say the format is “quicktime movie”. the name brand is “aiptek”. so any ideas how to fix this? i uninstalled and reinstalled vegas a few times too and nothing worked.
so what would u recommend??

That is correct, it is a codec compatibility issue whenever vegas
starts behaving that way pertaining to imported media.

You’ll need to buy QuickTime Pro ($30 U.S.).
Keith Kolbo discusses this camera, it’s shortcomings in Vegas and a workaround in this article on his site.

Step 1
Open the file in QuickTime Pro. Go to File|Export and select Movie to MPEG-4 as the export type.
Click on the Options button.

Step 2
For Video Format, select Pass through.
In the box above Video Format, now pull down the list and select Audio.

Step 3
For the Audio Format choose AAC-LC and leave the defaults.
Select OK and then save the new movie. The file will now have an .mp4 extension and Vegas will find a bitrate for the audio and be happy.

I am guessing, but I bet that fixes it for other NLE’s that handle AVCHD as well.

The other consideration when using the GO_HD files in Vegas is the frame rate. The GO_HD files are true 30fps. Most project and output templates for Vegas are the traditional 29.97 fps. Since this is also progressive video, Vegas interpolates the frame rate to 29.97 and that results in ghosted images. The key is simply making sure that you set your project properties to 30fps instead of the 29.97 and then make sure that you render our to 30 fps formats on the other end. Keeping it at 30fps will give you the best results. One note here, rendering to interlaced DV at 29.97 and showing it on an NTSC monitor looks fine. It is not noticeable until you are looking at it on a progressive monitor.

it did not have an option for “pass through”, well it did but it was greyed out and as not an option i could click on. seems like im almost there, lol. what could be the issue ? the audio in vegas is a track that is in the timeline but, it does not show that any audio can be heard( the audio waves ). any other ideas would be nice : 0 thanks, yoiu all have been sooo helpful. im almost there :b

Please tell me what you did! I am having the exact same problem with exact same camera.

I also cannot click the ‘Pass Through’ option and Vegas cannot set FPS to 30. What did you do??
