  • PLEASE HELP- COMPRESSOR DOES NOT WORK- MY WORK SCHEDULE IS SUFFERING

Posted by Beelaster on February 10, 2006 at 3:37 pm

I have reinstalled, troubleshot, trashed prefs, combed the web, and still had to make do with an Export to QT>Import to Compressor workflow which simply eats time and slows me way down.

My symptoms: I Export to Compressor, select a setting, select a destination, and it crashes. Apple doesn’t seem to be getting my reports (haha). This happens over and over. However, if I Export using QT, I can use Compressor 2 just fine. I am looking for the FCP/Compressor connection I so enjoyed in 4.5. Does it exist? Has the workflow changed?

Earlier posts have not gotten responses, leading me to believe that my difficulties are unique to my bay or that the solution is so obvious that it is assumed that I will figure it out.

Okay-I didn’t figure it out. HELP! I humbly accept newb pie for my ignorance! Why doesn’t Compressor 2 work? I had nothing but fun with Compressor 1, #2 has been exactly that- #2- for me! I would love to sit back and laugh at how silly I am while Compressor 2 dutifully compresses my FCP timeline. That would be great.

It is really embarrassing to grovel, but I run out of small talk when clients are sitting there waiting for me to render something twice. Especially when they have been to sessions where everything works fine and much faster!

It behooves me to continue posting on this topic until I get it figured out. I’m sure I’m not alone in all this.

PLEASE HELP ME CREATIVE COW! YOU’RE MY ONLY HOPE!

    Okay-

It appears I should have sat on that one a little longer.

I downloaded the update (2.0.1), and, as of this writing, I am cautiously optimistic.

Here’s what I think happened (a cautionary tale)

    1. When I installed Studio the first time, I believe that Norton Auto-Protect may have been running in the background.
    2. Because of the faulty install, my Compressor interface had strange extras on it, like an FCP preview window, leading me to believe that since Norton may have put up its walls during the first install, Compressor 2 was acting as a stand-alone app and therefore there was an FCP/Compressor conflict insetad of a collaboration.
2a. Months of around the city freelancing where I had to wear nice clothes and be presentable.
    3. I did a meticulous, by-the-very-word reinstall today and all appears to be well. I am back on the horse.

It was a ridiculous mistake that brought me here- don’t let it happen to you.

Thank you and goodnight. See you at NAB or something.

    Glad you figured it out.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
