  • Please help! Black “letterbox” on the right and the left sides of video

I have a strange problem that I never have encountered before. Please if someone could help me out with this!

I like to edit my clips with Premiere pro and then I export some still frames first to Photoshop as a bitmap and from photoshop I import them to AE as cropped layers. Then I do some basic editing in AE and everything seems fine, but then when I finally import the clips back into premiere, two black stripes appear on the right and the left sides of the video.

I have tried different settings, without any help. Premiere tells me that the video is originally 720 x 576 (1,067) and I use the same size in AE, BUT there is no such aspect ratio as 1,067 in AE! So I have tried square pixels and 1,07 with no luck!

I have a feeling that this somehow depends on the round and square pixels thing? Could that be possible? How should I do this correctly (I mean if I need to export a frame from premiere to photoshop and from there to AE) so that the size of the clip won’t change?!

Pleeease help me with this, I’m badly stuck!

I didn’t understand all of that, but I think your problem could be in After Effects, when you import them, the pixels of the pics are square, right?

If so, in AE, right click in the footage, choose “Interpret Footage/main…” and there in Other options, D1/DV PAL 1.07.

Here is a link to probably the best explanation of picture size and resolutions. It also explains your ‘black stripes’ issue.
    Cheers,
