Do you know anyone else with FCP? You can email me the project if you want, and I can try and save it out as something else and see if it works.

Yeah, and sorry I didn’t have anything to add. I didn’t disappear or anything. You guys were just putting the problem much more intelligently than I could, so I just kept following along and reading. Thanks to both of you for sticking it out and working on this.

    Hi there,
I have been experiencing this same problem for a few weeks now and have tried deleting preferences, creating new projects, running disk utility, tech tool, re-installing OS X and fcp twice, swapping out ram, etc.
I have had limited but some success with creating new and smaller projects since re-installing and opening the projects on other machines usually works, so the problem does seem to be specific to my machine.

    Here are my specs:
Dual 2.7 GHz Power Mac G5
    Memory: 4 GB DDR SDRAM

using 2 x 2TB Lacie Drives connected via FW800 (have tried disconnecting as well and still experience problems)
    working with xdcam hd footage

other fun things that have started in the past couple of days: freezing/ crashing, compressor won’t open, lots of errors ‘this app quit unexpectedly, etc.’, happens with fcp, safari, mail, all of it.

and now none of my autosave projects from the past two weeks will open. i do have a back-up on our server that opens fine on other machines so i’m not panicking though.

Thanks for reading and would love to hear if guys have any suggestions or have figured anything out.

    Thank you!!

    Julie

[Julie Snider] “other fun things that have started in the past couple of days: freezing/ crashing, compressor won’t open, lots of errors ‘this app quit unexpectedly, etc.’, happens with fcp, safari, mail, all of it. “

That’s not good. I would think that this would be a greater hardware problem (such as RAM, etc) than a software problem. When you reintalled OSX, it was from the ground up or did you simply rewrite over your old system? Erase and install vs archive and install?

[Julie Snider] “i do have a back-up on our server that opens fine on other machines so i’m not panicking though. “

If you export an XML of the whole project (nothing selected) from another computer, can you then reimport that XML to your problem machine in a new project?

I reinstalled from the ground up; wiped everything before installing.

exporting and reimporting the XML is a good idea, i’ll see how that goes. thanks.

    Julie
