Playing back 4k film scans in avid
I’m a director working on a short film and we’re having problems with our .dpx files in the avid. We shot anamorphic 35mm and are cutting negative to make a film print. We had about 20 seconds of VFX shots that were scanned at 4K to do a film out after they were composited.
One sequence is 192 frames long, which should be 8 seconds of material. However, when we input the footage into Avid at 24 fps, we only have 6 seconds and 10 frames of material. To add to the confusion, the compositing artist plugged the sequence into Nuke at 24 fps and it ran at 7 seconds and 11 frames.
I’m sure that, since we’re finishing on film, it won’t be an issue for the final deliverable. But we would like to check the footage before we send it off to the lab.
Thanks in advance for all of your help.
