  • Playing a DVD in Canada (burnt in England)

Posted by Victoria Ellis on November 22, 2005 at 7:05 pm

This is a rather interesting problem. I burnt a DVD for a friend to take to Canada (from England) but he said that it played one thing on the menu in black and white, and couldn’t even play the other. The curious thing is that when I burnt the DVD, it was on all regions. Is there any way around this?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Vic

    Hello!
Could it be a simple question of television system. That is PAL and NTSC. As I understand it most North American DVD players will not play a PAL DVD, whereas most european players
will play both PAL and NTSC.

To be able to play the DVD in all North American players you have to make a NTSC DVD.
The video footage has to be converted to NTSC. Guess there are a lot of software converters that you can use. However, a PAL DVD should be able to play on a computer in North America.
