My friend has just run into this issue.
when he connects his multichannel focusrite firewire soundcard and also connects the camera for external preview then the playhead freezes.
he can click anywhere on the timeline and it will go there. but pressing play or spacebar gives no result. when he disconnects either one of the firewire devices then he gets the playhead back !!(after a lurching response of bleeps, and unhappy disconnection sounds.
I’m sensing driver issues but why all of a sudden ?!?!?!

Nothing has changed, never had a problem before that.
just started doing it the other day.

I had a similar issue with an (external) M-Audio Firewire 410 audio box.
The solutions were (#1) to disable ALL Windows sounds and (#2) to buy another firewire card and put the M-Audio box on it’s own dedicated port.
    Problem solved 🙂

I have the same issue as far as firewire goes, I cannot use my converter (ADVC110) for a preview device while i have my VX2100 plugged in. I do not plug my camera into the coverter, but the firewire port on the front of my computer, the coverter is plugged into the back port on the computer.

[John Gordon] ” cannot use my converter (ADVC110) for a preview device while i have my VX2100 plugged in”

That makes perfect sense. Vegas can’t see more than one preview device at a time. It’s going to find one or the other and only that one. So you should not have multiple preview devices on at once. If you simply turn off the camera, the convertor should work fine.
