Just purchased a MBP yesterday. Playing a 720 24p DVCPROHD movie on a 2.4G Macbook Pro 17″ hi res 7200 internal drive, 2G RAM 800 fw 7200 exteral scratch disk. OS 10.4.10 QT 7.1.6 FCP 5.1.4 One layer, When canvas is set to 100 percent, images with pans and movement plays back with shifting horizontal segments. Static images do not have these horizontal break ups.

When set to 50 percent canvas size pans still break up. When set to 25 percent, not evident. Is the graphics card having a hard time keeping up? After rendering out QT movie, still get the same problem.

Have an Imac 17″ intel 1.8, 10.4.9 QT 7.1.5 using the same FW drive through a 400 port using the same fcp project, pans are smooth, no horizontal shifting. Is the OS or QT upgrade causing this problem? Is it the graphic’s card? Do I have a setting or preferrence wrong?
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    New notes:

Just imported a P2 card using the dual adaptor, looks perfect on playback. Must have something to do with the new OS and or QT versions not interfacing with P2 material imported using previous OS or QT environments.

Make sure your RT settings are at full quality and windows set at fit to fill not a particular percentage. If it persists, please post a screen cap- not sure what you’re getting at.

    Hi Noah:

I can send a QT movie. Not evident in a still image. Vertical lines shift. The lower quarter of the screen shifts 8 pixels to the right or left in relationship to the next quarter above. And that quarter shifts in in relation to the one above it. I changed my RT settings and scales to frame size, not percentage, still have the same problem. New material imported through the Dual Adaptor plays perfectly. This new dual adaptor sourced material, when taken to my Imac via a firewire drive alsp plays back perfectly. (the Imac has the old panasonic driver and one generation back QT and OS. I think it might have something to do with the new intel drivers panasonic came out with.

A guy on the DVXuser forum noted a similar problem in the HVX 200 workflow section and he is using FCP 2, not FCP 5.1.4:

Bizarre. I have a brand new 2.4 GHz 17 MBP and FCS2. I’m also noticing that shifting. After installing the latest updates (speculated to include a new video driver) Motion crashes like CRAZY!!

Reinstalled OS and FCS2, everything worked fine, until I installed the Apple updates, then Motion started crashing again.

    Thanks Noah will do.
I just tested the same footage on an 8 core with OS10.4.9 FCP 2 the same firewire drives, no problem. Must be something with the Macbook Pro or OS 10.4.10

    Noah:
New update, played the material from my firewire drive to an 8 core FCP 2 system, no problem with playback. Must be something about the hi res screen on this macbook.
