playback out of sync between MX02 and presonus firebox
Hi,
I’m using a Matrox MX02 mini to monitor video on a hdmi monitor and a Presonus Firebox firewire audio interface to monitor sound. They trouble is- the picture and sound are a few frames out of sync during playback. if I route the audio playback to go out though the hdmi it is in sync. I’m running FCP 7.0 on a mac pro quad with 5gb RAM. Any idea on why this and how it can be fixed? Thanks for you time.

I would have been surprised if they were in sync. Each box will have its own latency.

Why use a separate device? Why not use the audio outs on the MXO? Seems odd to me, using a different box to monitor audio. is there any reason why you can’t use the audio outs of the MXO?
I’ve often used separate audio devices for input (many suites have USB boxes for connecting VO mics, for instance) but never on the output – takes me back to the bad old days of Avids with separate audio/video cards *shudder*

If you are lucky, the video delay is greater than the audio delay in which case you can apply a delay to the digital audio signal if you are going into a device with delays built in like a digital mixer.
I also wonder why you don’t use the audio via the Matrox as it is designed to provide sync sound with picture so the latencies match.
