Playback Monitor Recomendations
I just lost my Apple 20″ monitor due to an accident. I used it at home to preview playback from my mac book pro as I have professional playback monitors at work. I really liked the playback, although the resolution was below HD (1680 x 1050). Ideally i’d buy the 23 inch but i cant afford that much. Is it worth it to buy another Apple 20″ or should I buy a new monitor with an HD or higher resolution from another manufacturer. Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I was looking into the SAMSUNG 2443BW 24″ .

In very unscientific viewing (meaning walking around Best-Buy) I’ve always been impressed by the Samsungs. Nobody ever seems to calibrate or tweak the monitors in a store like Best Buy in any way,
but the Samsungs always look good compared to others. I would suggest either, buy a Dell (as Jeremy suggests) because they already have a proven track record in the video world, or research the reviews of the Samsung, and then decide (go to a Best Buy and tweak one yourself too). They’ve let me hook up my HDV camera to a bunch of monitors to compare.

I’m thinking of combining this with an HD Link to provide full HD monitoring as well as a color reference. I do a lot of compositing in AE and also work extensively with Color. Would be nice to see the image in full 1920×1080 resolution instead of a 14-inch monitor.
The monitor is supposed to have some of its own color adjustment capabilities and the HD Link is also supposed to provide calibration capabilities.
I’m hoping I can get it to match my Sony CRT which I’m currently using for color correction.
What got me initially interested in this monitor was the 5ms LCD response time and the 20,000:1 contrast ratio.
If anyone finds anything on this monitor and/or combination with HD Link please post.
