I’m new to the forum but hope someone can help. Here’s the problem: I just switched from Windows XP 64 bit OS and Production Premium CS4 to Windows 7 64bit Enterprise Os and Production Premium CS5. I have a timeline in PPro with XDCAM 1440×1080 clips only. When I hit play after an edit, I see video and audio for a few seconds and then either the audio, video or both drop out, but the current time indicator continues playing through the timeline. After after 20 or 30 seconds the audio returns for a few seconds and maybe the video returns, but stutters. There are only acouple of transitions in the timeline.
Before I changed over, everything worked wonderfully with only the occasional stutter from the same footage.
    Machine specs
    HP XW8600
    8Gb RAM
nvidea quadro FX 4500 graphics card
    1TB, 750Gb Hardrives via Firewire.

I am grateful for any feedback.

[Todd Perchert] “are your playback settings set to use Hardware Acceleration?”

    a QFX 4500 is a couple years old…was/is a great card…but predates CUDA by quite a while.

Yes. I realized it was a 4500 after I posted… That doesn’t help David. Got anything to help the poor guy out?

All i can take is a couple preliminary guesses…

First, I’d check on the drivers and BIOS for everything… When I took a WXP machine to Windows 7, I had to update the processor BIOS, the BIOS on an older QFX card, as well as (of course) the drivers for everything…

Particularly with a QFX card of that age, I’m guessing you’ll need more than a simple driver update.

Unfortunately I think HP was bypassing PNY (the distributor for North America for NVIDIA, and the source of very competent tech support for Quadro cards) when they were building a lot of these machines, so you may have to work directly through NVIDIA for support.

I’d start with processor BIOS as a general starting point…but i suspect the display card is where the work needs to be done ultimately.

David – Tim makes a good point. Are you using any other hardware on the machine for video playback? Like Matrox, AJA, Blackmagic… that may need newer drivers.
And what is your sequence settings? Same as the clip?
One other thing could be the firewire. Is it on-board or a card? It could need newer firmware Win7.

Thanks for the input. I’ll take a look at the BIOS. I am, however, back in operation. One of my hard drives has an eSata port, as does my computer. Bought a cable and everything works great. Still going to check on the Firewire.
Thanks for all of your help.
