Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy playback issue

  • Posted by Melissa Sterne on July 21, 2009 at 3:35 pm

When playing back a sequence, it will intermittently pause, one of the drives (owc mercury elite) will start to chug along, the colored ball appears, and then 20-30 seconds later, playback will continue 5-10 seconds down the timeline, w/o audio. Then I’ll stop the sequence & re-play & all will be normal. I’m editing on a Mac Book pro, 10.4.11, fcp 6.0.5, with a 1T LaCie & 1T owc mercury drives. This is not an auto-save issue. Any ideas?

If both drives are plugged into the Firewire buss at the same time, that could be the problem. Even though you may have a couple of FW ports, they all run off the same buss and FCP only wants to see one device on the FW buss. Using the USB buss for one of the drives (if it contains media) is ng as USB can’t consistently sustain video data rates.

Go into the Energy Saver System Prefs. Turn off “spin hard drives down when idle”.
