Playback Issue
I run Premier Pro 2.0 on a very fast dual core machine (4GB of RAM). For some reason, the desktop playback in Premier is very choppy (the playback on my preview monitor is flawless). I am assuming it is an issue with the video card. I have an Nvidia Quadro FX 1400 which (supposedly) is fully supported by the Adobe corporation. Anyone know of any fixes for this issue?

What is the source material (DV or HDV) and what is your disk setup?

My C drive is my primary drive. I have two 300GB and one 150GB Seagates as my externals on firewire. I don’t have it set up as a RAID, because in my experience it is foolish for DV editing. I am just baffled… The computer is too state-of-the-art for these playback issues. I am guessing it is a setting somewhere.

Are the 3 fire wire disks daisy chained? Fire wire disks are not very fast to begin with, but if they are daisy chained you reduce the transfer rate even further. However, normally they should be fast enough to handle ordinary DV streams. Does rendering the time line help?
Since your system is quite up to date, I would suggest you add an internal SATA disk. It is at least two times and possibly three times faster than the external ones.

They are not daisy chained. Each drive has it’s own port on the firewire card. My primary internal drive is a 80GB seagate SATA. I guess I could do a test project on the primary drive and see if I have the same issue. By the way, you respond very quickly, and I appreciate it.

I just updated it recently, but I am not at home, so I will have to check to see if I have the latest update later tonight.

Some firewire cards only have one addressable port and two or three recept. acting as a hub for the single port and can cause problems.

If you are going to do a project on a system drive you could possibly end up with similar problem. -
