Play preview slow
Apologies in advance for the poor terminology! – self taught and dont know what things are called!
I have always used an imac and when I press play its runs through the comp slowly and the playhead area turns green – then when I play again it will play smoothly.
Now I have started using a macbook air – when I do the same it turns green when I play it but when it stops the green goes and it wont ever play through smoothly?
Any ideas on why this is happening? Is the macbook air not quick enough?

Sorry, I dont mean that the screen turns green! Just the a small strip by the playhead.

Basically this is what is happening..?
– I play the comp and the line goes green (cached to RAM)
– When I stop the line goes blue (cached to disk)Obviously I want it to stay cached to ram so I can get a smooth playback.

Generally, you want to use RAM preview (zero on the numeric keypad, Ctrl-0 on MBPs) rather than standard preview (spacebar).
Either way, you will have to wait for a render before you can see your work in real-time.

Sorry for the wrong interpretation.
I think You haven’t enabled the Disk Cache.
Press ” Cmnd + Opt + ; ” to open preferences and Check Disk Cache in Media and Disk Cache.
Also, If you are going for Ram Preview( pressing 0(Num Pad) ), then Disk Cache is not usable and if your Mac doesn’t have sufficient Ram than it wont save the Preview.
