I am trying to get jobs I do in AE into my Discreet Edit NLE. I have put the render settings on “best” and “full” and to my knowledge doing the right things, but when I import the job into Discreet the AVI video comes out pixelated on my monitor. Any suggestions?

Just to clear the obvious: Your render resolution is the same as your timeline resolution in your NLE, yes? You are using an uncompressed codec?

I’ve never had much luck with AVI’s. It’s not exactly an industry standard
format for graphics, although 3D guys tend to show up with them more often
for some reason. Most editors are going to ask for Quicktime in the Animation
codec. Make sure that your Field Render is set to “Lower”. This is the proper
field order for most NTSC interlaced projects.

Also, the Discreet folks we deal with usually want a Targa sequence rather
than a Quicktime file, but I believe the latest versions of Discreet (sorry – Autodesk)
software allow you to import Quicktimes.

My NLE is Discreet Edit and the native codec for it is Matrox Digisuite Motion JPEG. On my previous attempts I was using another codec. The Motion JPEG allows Discreet to work with After Effects resulting in the correct image quality. Thanks Chris, if you read this.

Cool. I would still use Quicktime with an uncompressed codec though instead of something compressed like Jpeg.
