  • Pitch Shift on Voiceover Recording? No Filters or Effects Applied

I’ve already made one post today relating to the new FCPx 10.3.3, and here is a second and hopefully last one.

Just now, I had talent re-record two pieces, and there is a pitch shift in his voice. It’s not quite to the chipmunk level, but it’s moved in that direction, not in speed, but in shifted pitch.

Quite baffling. I hope it’s not a bug in the software that awaits a future release for a fix. I may just need to play the video for the talent and record in a different application so as to avoid the unnatural shift in pitch.

My setup is the timeline has video that was reduced to 25% of normal speed. It is slow motion dance instruction, my vocal talent is the dance instructor speaking into the mic, just like he’s done on 100 prior videos (Using FCPX 10.0.7), without a hitch. The new voiceover goes just underneath the muted video track. Until now, there has never been an issue. Now he sounds half way between his normal male voice to Alvin, the Chipmunk.
