Pictures imported in video oversaturated

I’ve got a big problem here when importing pictures (TIFF or JPEG) to my videos in vegas pro. They’re always oversaturated in the final vid, looks like there is a colour space problem. As I am a photographer I am aware about proper colour management and my whole picture workflow is working perfectly, so no problems there and no knowledge problems about CM.
I am trying to import jpegs and tiffs with either sRGB or no colour space added. Both is not working and results in oversaturated images in the video.
Video is new to me, what am I doing wrong here?
Would be very pleased if someone can help me on this.Cheers,

November 27, 2011 at 4:52 pmDo they look over saturated in the preview window? I know I have had this problem when I have accidently had some color effects turned on in the time line.

November 27, 2011 at 4:59 pmno, they look oversaturated in the rendered video. someone told me this has something to do with studio-rgb and computer-rgb… but I haven’t found the right way to fix this until now

November 27, 2011 at 5:12 pmDrop the Color Corrector (Secondary) on the Preview window and apply the Computer RGB to Studio RGB preset.
This will change it from 0-255 to 16-235. -

November 27, 2011 at 5:55 pmI am working with Vegas Pro 11, there is no such in color corrector, it’s gone into Sony Levels… But that makes the image way to bright then, also in the rendered video

Make sure you’re using Color Corrector (Secondary) and not Color Corrector.
I’m not a Pro 11 user yet but it’s been there since the beginning and I haven’t read anywhere that it had been changed.But that makes the image way to bright then, also in the rendered video.
Sorry but that makes no sense to me as going from 0-255 to 16-235 should do what you want.
I do a lot of slideshows and use this plugin all the time to correct my stills. -

November 27, 2011 at 7:31 pmIf you’re mixing stills and video in a project, try adding the color correction only on the stills track(s) instead of the output FX, so that the video is left unaffected.
If you don’t have the computer-to-studio preset, you can re-create it from Mike’s screenshot.
Still images (especially from compact digital cameras) typically have higher saturation and more contrast than video, so you need to tone them down to match the video. In addition, still images tend to use pixel values of 0-255 (full 8 bit range) and video normally uses 16-235 (a hangover from analog TV video), so the computer-to-studio color correction reduces the range to suit video.

November 27, 2011 at 8:02 pmI read a lot today and I fully understand the problem with the saturation, but if I apply the cRGB to sRGB (also to the stills only) this reslts in kinda milky appearance in QT and also in youtube, thats my problem. Something in the chain is going wrong and I can’t figure out what it is really.

November 28, 2011 at 12:13 pmIs there any chance you have changed the pixel format from 8-bit to 32-bit in the project properties window? This is a long-shot but it could be the problem.

So this fixes the levels if I look into the waveform videoscope then correctly, before with 32bit the picture had a black point of 20%, that made it milky.
But why should I render in 8bit when I can use 32bit, so I changed the gamma to 2,2 in 32 bit mode and this also fixes the levels problem, no milky behaviour anymore.But sadly it doesn’t fix the saturation problem. The pictures in the video are still way more saturated in QT or youtbe than in photoshop. My computer is completely colour-managed, my whole workflow is, but that is for photo. So I think I have to go a bit further or more far away so to say. I am using one of the best wide-gamut displays available (NEC Spectraview Reference 271), so could the problem be only a display problem?
If I look on pictures in photoshop or in firefox they’re colour managed and so the appearance on my display is correct. If colour management is switched off e.g. for firefox they’re too saturated.
But what about video (QT,…), these are no colour-managed programs, are they?Cheers,
