picture quality
Dear Video Advisors,
I was wondering why the picture quality of my finished dvd’s isn’t as good as what I see on my tv monitor while I’m editing. The colors seem substantially faded.So I just rendered a 30 minute video on Vegas 5 using the MainConcept MPEG-2 option. Then I imported the rendered video into DVD Architect 2 and made the dvd. I thought by saving a step I might retain picture quality. But it didn’t work, the final dvd picture is just as faded as before. It’s not a terrible picture, just not nearly as vibrant as when I was editing. Quite a bit more faded. Any thoughts? Thanks, Karl

Did you use the default MPEG-2 settings?
As I recall, they were pretty low in Vegas 5.
Click the Custom button next to the Template box and then the Video tab.
In the settings boxes towards the bottom of this screen, make sure it’s set to CBR and that this value is 8,000,000.
Save this as a preset in the box at the top of this tab so you can us it again.
BTW, you can use this preset for videos up to 70 min. long.
Anything over that will require you to use a bitrate calculator to determine optimum settings. -
Yes, It was set at 8,000,000. I set it for best picture quality. Do you think I should see a finished picture on the dvd that is as good or nearly as good as what I was seeing on my TV monitor while I was editing?

Yes, it should be. Post all of your Vegas settings starting from “Render as” so we can see where you go wrong.
