pI is an FX. In Sony Vegas Should I add it as an FX?
Posted by Graham Bernard on November 16, 2013 at 9:39 pmTitle says all… as an FX to to an Event? Or Track? Or Media? Or . . . . where?
– I think?

November 20, 2013 at 1:18 pmOk, I’ll try again. Do I add PI as an FX to an Event?

November 20, 2013 at 4:41 pmWhat other choices are there? (It’s been a while since I’ve used pI in Vegas).
Basically, if it works, that’s how it should be done. There may have been different ways of doing it, but I don’t think it made any difference.

November 22, 2013 at 7:21 pmI just don’t understand the question, not being an experienced Vegas user. What are the other options if it’s not applied as an effect?
In After Effects you apply particleIllusion to a solid or to an adjustment layer. I just don’t know the choices in Vegas, or why you’re asking. Are you thinking that one way of applying it gives better performance than another?
I’d like to help, but you’re not giving me enough information for me to understand.
Alan.

[Alan Lorence] “What are the other options if it’s not applied as an effect?”
_______________________________________________________________Yes, of course as an Effect. But where exactly? Where exactly to get the benefit of the processing within Vegas?
After all these years of having applied pI to the EVENT – that is the EVENT that is holding the Media motion of a moving picture – I’ve just been experimenting in NOT adding pI to a Media Event, but rather adding pI to an Empty EVENT! An EMPTY Event! Yes Vegas has had these Empty Events since, well, for ever……
Could somebody corroborate this with me in giving better processing?
It seems too simple for words….. Look, GenArts’s SE I add to the Video Event – yer just have too. But pI? That’s an altogether other story.
And now, with your:

[Alan Lorence] “In After Effects you apply particleIllusion to a solid or to an adjustment layer. I just don’t know the choices in Vegas, or why you’re asking.”
_______________________________________________________________Your are implying that pI isn’t added to the actual video put to something else? I don’t now AE, and you don’t know VP well enough. But your comment about an “Adjustment Layer” is starting to add weight to my concept of adding pI to these “Empty Events” rather than a Media Event. After all, adding an FX to something that is EMPTY as well, is counter intuitive for any Vegas User wanting to apply pI Fireworks or Flames or Waterspouts to the ACTUAL video! Could this be a solution that has alluded me for years?
I do hope so . . . . ?

November 22, 2013 at 10:37 pmHere’s my “rough” results using the adding pI to an Empty (no media)Event. It appears to run much better like this and allows me to make more pI adjustments on the fly. PS, there isn’t any Audio, so don’t try and turn the knob up to 11!
