September 8, 2005 at 5:22 pmYou need to install a DV codec. particleIllusion does not support DV files directly on Windows.
Do a websearch for “Panasonic DV codec” and you’ll find several websites with that free codec and instructions for installing it. After installing it, you’ll be able to load DV AVIs in pIllusion.

September 8, 2005 at 7:13 pmI’ve noticed some problems with the Panasonic codec, not in pI, but in other programs. I never really thought of it as a problem until I needed to import some DIVX stuff into a video I was editing. Since I installed the codec, I’ve been unable to import DIVX encoded AVIs into some programs (After Effects can’t read them, Vegas says the video stream is offline).
When I open one of those same clips in Virtualdub, I get this warning:
[!] Video codec “Panasonic DV CODEC” is claiming to be able to decompress
formats that it does not actually support. This can cause the Windows
video codec system to malfunction and may cause applications to crash.
Please remove the errant codec or replace it with an updated version from
the original vendor.
As far as I know, I have the latest one. Not sure if its just a conflict with something on my system, or if it happens for other people as well. Anyone else have similar problems?—
