    Point 1:
I’m trying to produce a realistic shadow.

    Point 2:
I would like the shadow to have harder edges the closer it is to the object.

    Methods Tried:
-I’ve tried making two 50% grey layers with different gaussian blurs applied to them with layer masks used to smoothly transistion between the two layers, but it still doesn’t look right.
-I’ve also tried using brushes with varying widths and hardnesses

Are there methods you have liked that you could share? Any help is appreciated.

    For those interested:
I’ve been experimenting with a linear black to white gradient in an alpha channel and applying that channel in an lens blur. So far it will only blur the interior of a clipped object. My next task is to see how to blur the edges of a clipped object.

    1. Try using blur brushes of varying sizes and flows.

    2. Use gradient selections to apply blurs. (Put a gradient in a channel and load the channel as a selection.)
