Photoshop CS2 for free

Actually it’s not free. That was a big misconception. It was free only to customer of Photoshop CS2 because Adobe was shutting down the license servers. In fact, the entire CS2 was offered for free including After Effects CS2. But if you don’t have a legal license then you are not supposed to download it even though it is on the “honor” system.

I don’t know why TechSpot didn’t update their page once Adobe clarified this or how they are offering it from their servers and not Adobe’s site which the original links were posted from. Unless they know something I don’t and Adobe really did offer just Photoshop CS2 for free? I wonder.

Also important to point out the OS’s that are supported:

• Mac OS X v.10.2.8–v.10.3.8. PowerPC® G4 or G5 processor
• Microsoft® Windows® 2000/Windows XP. Intel® Pentium® III or 4 processor

Some have reported problems trying to install on Windows 7 since the security model has changed from XP and it definitely doesn’t work on Intel Mac’s after Snow Leopard.

I took their word for it – techSpot is usually pretty reliable. It *was* too good to be true… But I wonder if they let the horse 2.0 out of the barn?

Yea, I’m surprised you didn’t hear about it back in December when it happened. Everyone was reporting that Adobe CS2 was being given away for free and I’m sure a lot of people downloaded and installed it before Adobe cleared things up and said that it was only for registered users but it was was about a week before people fully understood what had happened.

It’s actually ironic considering that Adobe now holds their customer hostage to a monthly subscription fee forever!

Yep, this info has been floating around for a very long time.
Funny thing, CS2 versions can still handle any now-a-days
professional job thrown at it.

CS2 was extremely robust. Other than the new smart delete function, I don’t think there’s anything I use in CS6 that wasn’t already in CS2.

on anything much, when its all said and done.
