Photo-Jpeg + AE CS3 = Tetris
Hello all… I’m having issues with importing a clip to AE CS3 on my Windows 64bit System. The source clip is 1920×960, encoded with Photo-Jpeg 95%. Playing this pack in Quicktime, it looks perfect. When I drop it in to AE, it looks like a scene out of Castlevania (think OLD video game art). I checked the interpret clip settings and tried changing them a few times to get it to smooth out, but nothing seemed to help.
Anyone have any ideas?
Just to be clear… the composition I’m using it in is set to the same frame rate and size, so I’m not stretching it.
Update- I was able to get a copy of the Jpeg-Sequence used to create the Quicktime Movie and I’m getting the same results.

How are the results after rendering?
Could be just a preview issue…
Preview is full? without aspect ratio correction? -

You don’t have any switches set improperly do you? Are you previewing at Full resolution and have your footage set to Best Quality (as opposed to Draft Quality)? Is AE trying to deinterlace your footage? I’m guessing it’s progressive if the source was JPEGs so you may want to tell AE not to deinterlace if this is the case.

aspect ratio preview button [on] will make video look bad, turn it [off]. It’s the white square button with arrows. It makes jaggies too 😀

Same problem importing a jpeg sequence from 3dmax…
All the problems that i had:
It seems with a lower resolution (don’t depend of the aspect ratio)
jpeg sequence jumps (sometimes goes 1 frame before)
DO NOT RESIZE the sequence the problems will increase
The look of the composition is lower than the final Output (don’t depend of resolution, always Full).I’ve tried to solve it with the frame blending and all the posibilities of interpreting the footage. No way to solve it… (with frame blending RENDER is so slowly, more than 5 times slowly with 2*3ghz Quad Core with Multiprocessor On)
Few versions ago AE had the possibility of interlace or deinterlace sequences.
I solve if importing the sequence to Combustion and Interlacing it or importing the sequence to an AVID

What i finally have done was makeing an action on PS to change the jpeg sequence to a tga sequence and it works…
Parameters for AE: tga sequence: interpreting footage: fields off and render output with fields
