June 22, 2006 at 10:25 pmlet me make this clear to you. When Apple released the PCI Express standard, they wanted to make sure that NO PCI X CARD IN THE WORLD WOULD WORK on a PCI-Express machine. This applies to Atto, Adaptec, SIIG, Blackmagic, AVID, Aurora, Digital Voodoo, and everyone else in the world. This means that your investment in PCI-X cards GOES IN THE GARBAGE. This is a decision that Apple Computer made to punish you.
So now PCI-Express is the standard, and if you buy the MAC Quad with PCI-Express and a bunch of cards, like Blackmagic Decklink cards for PCI Express, or the Multibridge Express – I CAN PROMISE YOU that in several years, Apple will outdate PCI-Express, and something else will come out, and you will have to throw out every , all over again. This cycle will continue until you die, and will continue for your children, and your childrens children.
To continue to work on your PCI-X MAC Computer (which is an excellent computer), you can purchase a wonderful card like the Decklink Extreme for PCI-X, which works great. You have a great computer, and you can make money with it for years to come. But if you try to keep up to date with the latest technology – you will be disappointed every year or two.
