PC System – OPTIMIZE for After Effects – How?
Hi guys, what a great forum this is. Just about everything, including this question, but obviously technology moves and so this needs updating!

My system is:i7 processor (fine)
6GB RAM (mabye more needed?)
1GB GeForce 285 Graphics card (I know, I know)
and plenty a’ storage.oh, and After Effects of course (CS4)

Now the system is just not cutting it in terms of rendering – it’s the same ‘not-realtime’ speed I got from my old pc.
So I’d like to UP my system to be really AE-centric, especially to speed up render times.I’ll need another graphics card or two – but which one(s)?
And how much RAM would really kill the render time also?Thanks so much in advance, I know I’ll get the good answers on this site!

Don’t worry about the graphics card. A top-of-the-line graphics card doesn’t do much more than a middle-of-the-road graphics card for After Effects. Focus on fast processors, lots of RAM, and fast hard disks (more than one). And use a 64-bit OS.
Also, make sure that you’re doing everything else that you can to improve performance—not just buying hardware.
