  • PC shutting down/restarting frequently while using VCP Element 3D

    Hi all,

I’m experiencing a frustrating scenario that happens way too frequently for my liking. I am using what I consider a fairly powerful PC, with an RTX 3080 Ti graphics card — one that comes with its own large fan. But whenever I am working on many of my projects in AE (specifically ones that use Element 3D), the machine will simply shut down. Sometimes it’ll restart instead. But it always happens suddenly without warning.

This seems to be isolated to using AE, as it doesn’t happen with Premiere or any other software. Wondering if this is some kind of overheating problem where Element is somehow spiking its system resource usage and forcing the computer to just capitulate? I’ve tried cranking up the fan speed with MSI Afterburner but really am unsure what is causing it. Not sure if I need to modify my PC build to add another fan?

If anyone has heard of this issue, I’d love to hear thoughts on what might solve it. Thank you!

I’ve had issues where Element will crash the whole PC – in theory it should not, but i think a conflict arises with the graphics card. Sometimes the only solution was to make sure the rest of AE was using software-only (File > Project settings) so that Element had free run of the card.
