PC Screen Capture to FCP on a Mac
A client has a flash-based presentation on a PC that we need to capture to be able to edit in FCP on a Mac.
If the file was Mac-friendly, we’d use ishowu to do the capture.
If the PC had S-video out, we’d play it out into a DV deck and then bring it into FCP.
Neither of these are options.
Any suggestions?
The PC is a Lenovo thinkpad. It has a 4 pin firewire out.
One thought I had was to use a PC screen capture program such as My Screen Recorder, which will make an AVI file.
Has anyone done anything like this before?

The easiest (and best) way to do this is to open the original project file in Flash & make changes there.
Trying to re-edit any finished piece- Flash, DVD, Beta, etc., in any NLE- FCP, Avid Premier, etc., will always be a compromise at best. And more likely an unsatisfying hack.
“No, I can’t change that title. We need to cover it up or cut it out & make a new one.”

If you can open the AVI in Quicktime Pro, you should be able to convert to an editing format. I have used Camtasia Recorder for screen cap.

This is more a question for PC geeks.
The best option would be to export your Flash movie to QT.
You can also export in .AVI with one of the codecs compatible with QT.
Anther possibility is to export the animation as a sequence.

If you can’t get the Flash fla file, you can play the swf on your mac and capture that. Most likely you can size up the playback. Eltima has an excellent swf player that’s free. They also have some very helpful apps. One of them will extract a fla from a swf if that’s all you have and you want to modify the fla.
