Is there a way to use a PC laptop (Dell) with Avid Xpress Pro HD, instead of a Mac with Final Cut? I’ve heard that the P2 was a PC native format(?), and also that Avid recognizes the MXF format, and doesn’t have to be converted like Final Cut has to do, to quicktime files…. Could you then use that as a pass thru, straight into an external SATA raid?

Avid on the PC does work with HVX files, yes. P2 isn’t PC-native in any way, but Avid does have native support for the HVX on the PC. Most formats are supported already, but not all; hopefully the rest will be added soon.

Yes Avid supports the MXF format, no it doesn’t have to be converted.
