Looks pretty solid so far. Here are some things to consider:

Does the motherboard have built in firewire?

Does the motherboard have Sata II

Also, get a Quadro video card, there are pricey but help on rendering time. (especially After Effects)

You asked what a raid is: RAID is several things, but primarily it is the connecting of multiple to hard drives to act as one large drive. This is done for 2 reasons:

(1)you can set up a RAID for REDUNDANCY (which means that your data is being written to at least 2 drives at any one time—this keeps you from losing data if any single hard drive crashes–usually done as RAID level 5)

(2)RAIDs are also used to help increase the throughput for either reading or writing to the drives. You can split your data across multiple drives which means that (for example) if you had one drive that could write at 30 MB/sec, then if you had a performance RAID you could write to 2 drives at a combined speed of 60 MB/sec. this is important for high data rate applications like multiple streams of High Def video.

    Hope this helps
