There is a project where the footage is on the original 2″ masters and they want to bring some of it in to my NLE to do some editing on. I usually batch from the camera masters but they want to encode it and drop it all on a drive and ship it. My question is, is there a format that I can ask for that would go in clean, look sharp and get along well with Adobe without needing extra equipment? Something 8 bit I imagine. Thank you for your assistance!

I would suggest a professional codec like DNxHD which can be decoded and encoded on all platforms and is very resilient.

When you say a 2″ master, are you referring to Standard Definition video?
Is this going to be converted to HD? By them or you?

What system and software are using to edit this?

These are more details will be helpful in avoiding issues.

They are converting from the master they have, They will likely bring it down to SD since the end product will be DVD. Thank you for the information provided so far!

    Thank You for your input!
