  • Pause Comp Timeline with an Expression?

Posted by Tim on April 14, 2005 at 4:45 am

    Hi,

I am working on a software tutorial in AE and I was wondering if there is a way to pause the playback on the timeline. I need to pause it for the voiceover to finish. I am hoping there is a way to do this is expressions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hey,

You could precomp your video layers, apply time remapping to the precomp layer, then add a hold-frame keyframe at the point where you want the video to pause.

    Take care,

    Nick

You can’t pause the timeline playback in AE. What? You think this is Macromedia Director? 😉

    Try this:

    1. Drag the comp into a new comp.
    2. Add the voiceover here.
    3. Apply time remapping to the comp layer that you just brought in.
    4. Set keyframes for time remapping so the playback of the layer proceeds to the pause point, holds, then resumes at the end of the pause. The graph should slope up, level off, then slope up again. Make sure the two middle keyframes are equal, and playback speed is 100% when the graph is sloping.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve

Tim, just remember that you want to keep 1st and 2nd keyframes as a group and same for the 3rd and 4th keyframes. You can space out betweem the two groups to whatever length
    you need for your proj.
    Good luck
