I just want to get a few thoughts on partitioning. I am running FCP 6 on a MacPro Quad Core, 8 gigs of ram, OS 10.4.11, 4 internal hardrives 500gigs each, and an external 2tb raid 5 setup. I have yet to partition the raid and was told by my tech that I didn’t need to. As of yesterday, when capturing to the 2tb drive via the AJA IO HD, I started having sync issues. Everything is 5 frames off. There is only 85gigs on the 2tb drive. I was wondering if partitioning the drive would help. Even if this is not the answer is partitioning something I should do anyway? And if so how many partitions?

No, partioning has nothing to do with sync, and in addition partioning serves only to make moving between projects and organizing more difficult, rather han less difficult.

In terms of sync, under the tab Final Cut Pro — System Settings — Playback Control change the default from “4” to “0” and see if that doesn’t change things for you.

Thanks David, it worked like a charm. Do you know what I did to cause this?
Also, glad to hear that partitioning will do me no good.
    Thanks again!

You didn’t do anything wrong, the 4-frame offset is a silly default setting that Apple has left there to trap people and to give helpful Cow members one more thing to help others figure out.
