Particles (snow) with Tracking shot.
I have a long tracking shot at the opening of my movie. There is snow already on the ground and you can vaguely see the actors’ breath. But there is no snow falling. I have been playing around with it, and I can make a pretty convincing snow for a steady shot. But once there is movement their should be displacement of the falling snow which I can’t figure out how to do.
I have BCC6 installed and I have been using the BCC snow effect to get the snow. But like I said, once the movement starts all the snow stays at the same distance from the camera. You should be displacing snow and walking past it as it falls. Any help on how I can achieve this effect would be great. I am attaching a link to the video clip (compressed to 12 MB, hosted on my mobileme account).

You just need two or more layers of the snow using different parameters. Move them at different rates.
You can do this as a 3d comp and get a stunning paralax simulation.

Sheesh.
Okie dokie, set up a 3D environment that simulates your set. Program a camera that emulates your camera.
Set ten or fifty layers of snow at strategic locations.Good luck.
The thing that will kill the illusion is there’s snow accumulating on the actors’ clothing.

Alright, thanks alot for the help. Im doing this partly to get more aquainted with After Effects. I’ve been an editor for a long time but never really got into effects much. So thats what im working on right now.
But I agree with the Sheesh. . . Its how I teach myself stuff. Think of something rediculous and learn how to do it.

I’ve looked over your clip again.
I think you can use Motion Tracker (I have not opened Mocha yet, no time to learn new toys) and solve some really interesting automatic settings. You can track the wall to simulate a handheld camera’s movement imparted onto a snow layer. but you want several layers for the camera to pass through, sort of.Still, the illusion goes all to heck without accumulation on their clothing.
