    I’ve been trying to download PI in order to complete a college project, but it just crashes whenever I try to open it. I do intend to purchase the program after the trial expires if I like it, but I can’t even make the trial show up. I’ve downloaded particleIllusionSE AND ParticleIllusion3.0 (Demo Versions) and I am running Windows Vista. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the program countless times and restarted my computer too. But I just keep getting the “Particle Illusion has stopped working” message as soon as I click the button. I’m using an Administrator Account and have tried running it as admin too. If it helps, this is what I keep on getting;

    …Could somebody help me with this? This isn’t the only program I’m getting this problem with either; hypercam won’t work either. I think it has something to do with Vista, because it works fine on my father’s XP.

    I recently had the same problem. If you look just a few posts before yours you will see my post with the exact same problem. Try the search next time it really works great as well.

    Here is what I did to fix my vista problem.

    You’re probably using an old version. Update to 3.0.4:

    I updated to the new and it worked fine. I did use the demo on windows vista 64 and it worked fine as well.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks the image did help.

    The problem is Vista’s Data Execution Prevention (DEP).

    Right click on ‘My Computer’ and choose Properties. In the
    Advanced tab/panel, select the “Settings” button in the Performance
    pane. Choose the “Data Execution Prevention” tab and switch DEP so
    that it is enabled only for essential Windows programs or add particleIllusion to the exception.

    Hi Alan,

    thanks for your help. Since changing the data execution prevention my PI works well.
