We just purchased a Panasonic TH-42PF11UK and the whites are grey no matter how I set it up. I have the Panasonic BT-LH1700W and a Sony CRT monitor and both display the whites accurately. No matter what I do the whites on the TH-42PF11UK show about 70 IRE to my eye and will go no brighter even if i push the white way above 100 IRE. Anyone know if there is a way to get whites out of this monitor? I am using this with the AJA Lhe.

Sounds like you may have a bad panel. Call the Panasonic 800 number or the vendor you bought from.

Unfortunately I use the same monitor and am having the same problem. If whites take up too much of the screen real estate, they look grey. I’m trying to get used to it. If you find out that these particular monitors are defective, please post.

I called Panasonic and the said it was the best you can expect. I find that hard to believe, My TH-42PX75U which is three years old looks better than this.

How are you connecting to it?
we have 1 42 connected via dvid from a blackmagic HDSDI to DVID box, as well as component via a Kona 3, and 3 of the 50inch units connected via component to AJA DS and Matrox MXO2.
They were dialed in by eye, matching as close as possible to the calibrated FSI monitors. It’s a very close match no client saying “can you make it more like that one”

The base setting for all is monitor

That’s what I figured they would say. I guess I’ll have to live with it. I also use a Sony XBR 40″ LCD. It blows the panasonic plasma away. Everything is bright, crisp and accurate.

Hi Rick, I tried the XBR9 and it is great with the whites but you can see vignetting on the left and right edges, but it’s better then grey whites.

Yes, that’s true, but It’s very subtle and I find the monitor to be so much better that I’m willing to live with that.

Since you’re connected analog you might be double terminated. Are you looping to or through other gear? Look for 75 ohm switches by the connections. If you are looped through any other gear that is terminated you would get less signal and a dimmer picture.

There are power saving techniques on the monitor that will knock back the brightness to save juice. Turn them all off and turn off the peak limit.
