Panasonic DVX100 24p mode questions.
Hi,
I’ve just had a director contact me about off-line and on-line for a feature length doc shot on “mini DV 24p 16X9 on DVX100A camera”.
I have never worked with originals from that camera so I was wondering if anyone has any tips.
I assume I would need that camera to digitize from, through firewire?
Is there some special (inexpensive) deck available?
Is it a true 24p on that camera or some kind of “pulldown 29.97” trick?
If it is true 24p original, and this is a broadcast ntsc delivery, then will the camera output some form of 29.97, and should I be talking the director into this for the edit?
If I online to probably a digibeta master, what about the conversion 24>29.97 if necessary?
In my experience people often shoot in 24 modes for a “film motion look”, or they are dreaming of a film print “maybe some day”. So there is usually a lot of explaining to do to them, because they haven’t thought it through post. Generally speaking they are better off in a 29.97 friendly frame rate because that is their actual deliverable, and it is highly unlikely that a film print will ever be made.
Thanks in advance for any help and opinions.
