Sure you are. 🙂But that is fine, there is nothing wrong with that. What you are bring here is great info. THIS is one exciting camera! I’m more excited about this than I am the Alexis (simply because the Alexis is totally out of my league price wise.) This camera is so in the right direction.
Keep the info and the excitement coming.

September 13, 2010 at 5:04 pmTotally agree with Michael.
Nothing wrong with that. Just wanted to give you a business idea that just might work in this age of constant info.
And yes the camera is a step in the right direction. My only grouse, because ive had experience with RED, is lack of higher quality images. which of course can be circumvented with a ki pro mini.
My next question is when is the RED scarlet going to be released and whats the real price point, God alone knows that. Im actually thinking of waiting till years end to make a final decision and get myself a nice Christmas present.

September 21, 2010 at 6:51 pmThis camera is going to be a real eye opening game changer! However, not to be too stupid about this… I think Panasonic is missing the boat if they don’t provide a standard video style lens that has a motorized zoom and at least a 1.8 f-stop! A lot of people are going to gravitate to this camera and then they find out it is really tedious to operate the lens manually, to change lenses frequently or have to pick up the camera and move it to frame their shots… it will take longer to shoot scenes and video shooters aren’t used to working this way! No doubt, we are going to see documentaries shot with this camera where the filmmaker has to zoom manually… a throwback to 60’s style documentaries…you know a 16mm film camera with an Angenieux 12-75mm zoom that has a little pin sticking out that the camera operator can push on to zoom the lens. Oh, the kit lens doesn’t have a little pin sticking out for the purpose of doing a manual zoom … even Sony’s Z7 camera with it’s Zeiss lens has a little pin! And don’t forget, does the kit lens have proper back focus? Of course, everyone thinks that only “filmmakers” are going to buy this camera! And finally, the kit lens has a motor that operates the autofocus, well maybe a second motor could be inside the lens to operate the zoom … attached to a lanc connector… and easily operated by the filmmaker! Okay, I’ll stop being stupid now!

October 15, 2010 at 2:06 pmI totally agree with David. Everything about the Panasonic af100 sounds fantastic to me – EXCEPT – the motorized zoom control. If I don’t have it – well that’s another game changer for me too….which swings me back to the Sony EX3 /EX1. I shoot a lot of concerts and need nice smooth motion in and out.
Does anyone know if there will be a compatible zoom lens? I can’t believe Panasonic would leave this out!!!!

October 15, 2010 at 3:37 pmThe 4/3″ sensor in the AF100 has slightly more than 4 times the area of a 2/3″ sensor, and more than 6 times the area of a 1/2″ sensor. Typically, the larger the sensor a lens has to cover w/o vignetting, the more it costs.
Motorized servo-zoom lenses are typically parfocal (they hold focus as the focal length varies), so they cost more than non-parfocal zooms, such as most DSLR zooms.
A parfocal, servo-zoom lens that covers the full m4/3 sensor will probably be very expensive; possibly far more than the cost of the camera body itself. Obviously the more a less costs, there will be fewer customers who will buy it.
If the AF100 proves popular it’s likely at least one lens manufacture will eventually offer a parfocal, servo-zoom lens for 4/3″.
However, given the cost of designing & producing such a lens, and the relative small initial size of the market, they may choose to wait to see how many they might sell before taking that gamble.

October 15, 2010 at 8:02 pmMust say the footage looks outstanding. This camera with proper lenses and a quality outboard recorder like the new AJA KI PRO MINI should be a great combo for indie filmmakers – I know I wanna give it a try.
