I have done the process of transferring the panasonic 200 footage from my firestore into a mxf file. When I use the media tool it pull in all the files and they are all there….but when I look at the individual clips there is sound but no picture. Across the top of Media tool it says tracks and under that it says there is a video and 2 audio tracks…however, under the title the clips in question say nothing, where some other footage says DVCProHD 720/60 and that stuff shows up. Any help would be appreciated.

The best way I’ve found to work with P2 is to leave the Firestore connected as a drive, turn on MC and let it find it as a media drive. Highlight the bin (or create a new one) you want your media to go into. Go to ‘File>Import>P2>Clips to Bin’ (my syntax may be off – I’m not in front of an Avid right now…). You’ll get a dialog box to navigate to your Firestore. Click on the folder above the ‘contents’ folder. Click OK, and you’ll get all your clips in the bin. You can actually edit with these (providing you can keep the firestore connected)and create a master. Or, you can either consolidate the clips, or go to ‘file>Import>P2>clips to bin (again, the syntax thing…). Either way, you’lll be able to get them to your local media drive.

Thanks for the info and I did get most of the files to finally work. But I was wondering if I could bug you on a different issue.

I have one external HD (M:\) that holds a great deal of old footage shot with the panasonic 200. I got all of my media files loaded into my project, except one folder. I have tried this several times…I would open up my project in MC and then I would create a fake title to activate my K:Avid Mediafiles\1\, then I would copy and paste the files in there. Then I would do the media tool for the K: and it never shows up, even though when I look at the K:\ all the video and audio files are there. Any thoughts? Its driving me crazy because its the last file that I need. Thanks for your help.

I’m not understanding why you are creating a fake title to activate the k: drive??? Try this: Go to Tools>Console. You’ll get a scary looking window. Type this in EXACTLY:

    alldrives

No period, no capital letters. Hit return. You are telling MC to look at ALL drives as media drives. This will stay active until you type alldrives again in the console. Close the window.

    See if that works….
