What do I do in this instance:
I’m working with a DVD (I’ve ripped a DVD and am working with the ripped mpg file in Vegas). According to the box the DVD’s format is NTSC. When I render in Sony Vegas do I render in NTSC or PAL? I think it should be PAL as I’m in Thailand. I’m a bit confused.

Depending what you are doing with the end video.

Does your DVD player support NTSC? If you convert NTSC to PAL you will be converting from 480 scan lines to 576 scan lines and you’ll be missing 96 lines of video! That means you’ll need to either stretch the video or crop it but either way it will modified to fit. It’s best to keep it in it’s original form if your DVD player will play it.

What about other people’s DVD players? I’m going to hand it out to people in Thailand.

Just comment but…Is the Ripped DVD Copyright © material?. Need to be careful if you intend to distribute it…..

That’s a good point. If you are ripping a DVD that you created that’s one thing but if it’s copyrighted material then what you are doing is illegal because you don’t have the right to distribute it.

Yea, thanks I’ll be careful. I don’t fancy going to jail just yet.

I’ve bought a documentary and translated it and wish to stick it on YouTube. Of course I’m going to get permission from the documentary maker before doing so.

    PAL or NTSC?
